Database Leak Confirms Galaxy Z Fold 7 Supports Qi2 Wireless Charging But Relies On Magnetic Cases With 15W Limit
Samsung seems to be focused on bringing its next foldable models, which are said to be unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked 2025 this July. Users seem to be hooked on what improvements the tech giant will make in the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Speculations have given away quite a few details about the upcoming fold models, and now a new database listing has come about that gives away some key information on the wireless charging capabilities of the new foldable.
A new database listing gives away the wireless charging details of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and we could see the next foldable support Qi12
With the launch date of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 approaching, the rumor mill seems to be churning in full swing, leaving little for the imagination. Just when we thought we had seen enough of the speculations, a database listing emerged, giving away some key details on the wireless charging of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. A Samsung device previously not seen, with the model number SM-D637U, has appeared in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) database via 9to5Google.
Typically, Samsung does not use model numbers in the given pattern, but in the past we have seen such numbers being used in order to conceal the identity of the upcoming devices. So, it could be that the company is attempting to remain discreet by following the same listing pattern for the new foldable phone before it is officially unveiled. The SM-D637U is most likely the same as the SM-F967U for the US market.
The listing also suggests that the company would be extending support for Qi12 wireless charging standard and we could see some massive improvements in the performance and capability of the device. If this is true, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be the first foldable phone to get the Qi12 Ready certification and could help it align with the flagship models.
The Qi12 Ready is different from the Qi12 wireless charging standard as it supports the same capabilities but requires a compatible magnetic case in order to support it and comes with a wireless charging speed capped at 15W. Galaxy Z Fold 7 is additionally expected to come with the same battery capacity as its predecessor, standing at 4,400mAh, and a similar wired charging speed as well, standing at 25W. We could see more details shape up as we near the launch date.
